The eleventh of September, and it rained the whole day.

Married

How it started

Claire

A friend's birthday, and he spent the entire evening talking to the host's grandmother. I decided anyone who does that is worth interrupting.

How it started

Ethan

She interrupted. I had been getting somewhere with that grandmother. Nine years later the grandmother came to the wedding, so I consider it a draw.

What we said, before the rain got louder

Claire

I promise to keep interrupting you when it matters, and to leave you alone when it does not, and to learn the difference for the rest of my life.

Ethan

I promise you the last of everything - the coffee, the good chair, the word. And I promise to keep failing at that last one honestly.

From everyone who was there

I have never seen two people so unbothered by weather.

Sarah, her sister

How well were you paying attention

Question 1 of 3

What time did it start raining?

To everyone who stood in a field in September rain and pretended it was fine — and to whoever brought the second set of umbrellas, who we still cannot identify.

One word for the day

It was far too wet outside. Have it here instead.

Thank you for standing in a field in the rain for us. This page is where the day lives now, and it is yours as much as ours.
